Situated on the western part of the island on a plateau culminating in the Mount Solaro, Anacapri, with its white houses plunged in the green of the olive groves and vineyards, slopes down the imposing versant of Mount Solaro and stretches on the whole western coast of the island to the sparkling lapis lazuli-blu sea. Since the 18th century, poets, writers and foreign intellectuals contributed to make Anacapri a main destination for people looking for peace or a still incontaminated, rural and quiet nature. More humbly elegant than the near mundane Capri, already turned towards a more commercial tourism, the ancient village of fishers and farmers has been influenced by the development of the city. It is also worth seeing the picturesque Capodimonte road, with its many boutiques. It gets to villa S. Michele, which belonged to Axel Munthe, with its beautiful garden and the breathtaking panorama of the northern part of the island.
